A: Your brain can only focus for about 90 minutes at a time. You need to give it a rest or you get fatigued. Leave your work environment, get fresh air, you only need 5 minutes! If you’re not thinking well or getting grumpy, you don’t need more caffeine, you need to take Bray Brain Break!

6 Steps from Manager Tools for Handling Your Mistakes:

  1. Just admit your mistake! Immediately take responsibility. Denial is not the way to fix it. Giving excuses will hurt your branding. Hitting it head on is the mature thing to do and will correct the issues fasters.
  2. Talk about your mistake in active language. You’re not telling a story, you’re giving a report. Don’t leave pertinent information out or blame others or over apologize.
  3. Deal with the consequences. You may be able to prevent further negative repercussions.
  4. Who else needs to know? Don’t hide it. Contact anyone who needs to know and let them in on what happened.
  5. How are you going to fix it? This is THE most important step. Have a solution and follow up with a conversation on how you’ll fix it.
  6. Have a plan for how to prevent the mistake from happening again.

It’s never as dire and deadly as you might think it is. People will forget about it as time passes. You’ll get through this!
