There is more work than you can get possibly get done in a work day and more keeps coming. You keep saying yes to everything and helping everyone out while the most important tasks may get ¬†shoved to the side. Instead of asking how you can get everything done let’s ask another question.. How can you manage your workload and learn to say NO?

STUFF WE LEARN IN THIS EPISODE

Learn to say NO!

Prioritize.

  • Keep a list of all ongoing work, activities and tasks so you can focus.
  • Assign a priority to each task to avoid cognitive tunneling.

Say NO.

  • Consult your prioritized list often so you can determine if you’re able to take on another task or project.
  • Say NO to make sure you have enough time to do your job correctly.
  • Manage your bosses expectations.

SAVE YOUR TIME AND SANITY

  1. Take time to consider the request. Never give an immediate answer. Step back.
  2. Offer up another alternative.
  3. Say NO in person!
  4. Avoid explaining details of why you can’t do it.
  5. Practice! Over and over.

How can you manage your work load so you leave work feeling good about your day? Managing work overload will help you, and others avoid burnout.

First, encourage behavior change, filter the noise out and prioritize requests.
Next, give yourself and others permission to say NO.
Finally, reward effective collaboration. Avoid bottle necks!
