Failing is difficult. We need to take on new things that might be scary and end badly but on the other hand they might be something successful! To have a good career you need to learn something new at least once a year. Things are not as scary as we think they will be. We can overcome those fears when they face us.
How would you rate the happiness and fulfillment in your life from 1-10? Take an hour a week to try something new and try to up that number. We become mistake-phobic. When you do that you are taking out the spice of life. When we fail we become defensive to alleviate our mistakes onto something else. Stoking the fire of perfection is unhealthy. It takes away the creativity, innovation and humanness of who you are. Instead of blaming others for our mistakes and failures we need to take responsibility. Embrace failure and learn from it. When we blame others for our mistakes or failures it tells others that you’re powerless over your life.
What happens when you can’t admit your failures? You take away the learning opportunities. Those who have failed more are more successful because they learn more. It’s one thing to know this and another all together to live it. When you fail it hurts but you can fail successfully and become better than you are now. I’ve had some big failures but I owned up to them and learned how to fail. Did they ruin my career? No.
How do we make sure we learn from our failures?
We can work together to fail successfully. It’s time to enlarge our lives and take on big things in our lives. Think about how doing that can help others! Have a great week. Remember, it’s your career, you’re responsible for it.
ACTION ASSIGNMENT: Before bed tonight write down something new you are going to try. Be ready for the possibility of failing. Pick it up and try again!
