TODAY’S QUESTION

Q: “How can I take control of my own Leadership Development and what is the best way to develop as a leader?” -Petra, Sweden

A: Organizations need to give experiences to their employees to develop them for the next level position. Identify a challenging and complex problem in their business function and have them meet with innovators outside the organization to open their thinking to possible solutions. Have them carry out a Safe to Fail Experiment.

Doing it all on your own? Pick a challenge that’s already on your plate, put together a short term Safe to Fail Experiment, introduce the solution to a customer whom you trust that will provide honest feedback. This will give you the information you need to take your idea to your boss. Even if they don’t go for it you will take away some learning from the experience.

STUFF WE LEARN IN THIS EPISODE

When you come home from work the first 10-15 minutes dictates how the rest of your evening will go. Whether it’s you or your spouse/significant other that had a bad day if you don’t learn how to make your reentry into your home life correctly, you are asking for problems. asking for issues.

How to Come Home From Work:

  • Short commute? Stop for a few minutes on your way home. Rest for a few minutes, enjoy fresh air and relax.
  • Long commute? This increases stress. In the last 15 minutes put on some relaxing music, silence the phone; prepare your mental state to be your best self.
  • Send up a warning sign before you get home. This prepares your loved ones to give you a bit of space when you get home.
  • Service is one of the best ways to pull your brain into a positive mode.  Think of ways you can make anyone living under your roof happy.
  • Framework your emotions. You need to develop this skill over time; it takes practice.
